Back Pain care in Sandy Springs, GA

Back pain rarely stays in one place. It changes how you sit at work, how you sleep, how you pick up your kids, and how much of your day you spend bracing for the next sharp pull. At Excel Chiropractic in Sandy Springs, we start by finding why your back hurts — which joints are not moving, which muscles are overworking to compensate, and what daily habits keep reloading the same spot — rather than simply chasing the spot that hurts today.

Signs and symptoms we assess

  • Dull ache or stiffness across the lower back, worse after sitting
  • Sharp pain when bending, lifting, or twisting
  • Pain that spreads into the hips or buttocks
  • Morning stiffness that eases once you get moving, then returns by evening
  • Muscle spasm or a feeling that your back could ‘go out’

Common causes and contributors

  • Prolonged sitting and poor workstation posture
  • Repetitive lifting, yard work, or weekend sports
  • Disc irritation, joint restriction, and muscle strain
  • Old injuries that never fully regained normal movement
  • Stress and poor sleep, which lower pain tolerance and slow healing

No single cause explains every case. Two people can describe the same pain and need different plans, which is why the examination — not the symptom list — decides what we do.

What care looks like at Excel Chiropractic

  • A focused examination of spinal movement, posture, muscle balance, and nerve signs
  • Gentle, specific chiropractic adjustments to restore movement to restricted joints
  • Soft-tissue work where tight muscles are protecting the area, including Graston technique where appropriate
  • Simple home guidance on sitting, lifting, sleep position, and short movement breaks
  • Clear re-check points so we can see whether pain, movement, and function are actually improving

Care at Excel is structural and specific: find the joints and tissues that are not doing their job, restore movement where it is restricted, calm the tissues protecting the area, and give you the smallest set of home changes that will actually hold the result. We re-examine at set points rather than continuing indefinitely without evidence of change. If we find something outside chiropractic scope, we will say so and help you get to the right provider.

What happens at your first visit

Your first visit is an examination visit, not a sales pitch. We start with your history: when this began, what makes it better or worse, what treatment you have already tried, and what it is stopping you from doing. Then we examine movement, joints, muscles, and nerve function as they relate to your complaint, and explain what we found in plain language before any care begins. You will leave knowing what we think is going on, what we recommend, how long we expect it to take, what it will cost, and when we will re-check whether it is working. If your case needs imaging, medical care, or a different specialist first, we will tell you that on day one. Book through the Schedule page with the $21 New-Patient Special: Get your Chiropractic Evaluation, Report of Findings, AND a Graston Soft-Tissue Treatment Session for Only $21! The special does not include a massage.

What helps between visits

Progress is rarely made in the treatment room alone. Between visits, the patients who do best keep moving within the limits we set, apply the home guidance consistently rather than intensely, and pay attention to patterns — what time of day symptoms peak, which activities reliably provoke them, and which reliably help. Write those patterns down and bring them in. They often tell us more about what is driving your problem than a single pain score, and they let us adjust the plan on evidence instead of guesswork. If something we recommended flares your symptoms for more than a day, tell us rather than pushing through it.

When to get checked promptly

Seek prompt medical care for back pain with new loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness in the saddle area, fever, unexplained weight loss, pain after a major fall or crash, or leg weakness that is getting worse.

Frequently asked questions

How long before back pain improves?

It depends on the cause and how long it has been there. Many straightforward cases start to ease within the first few visits, while long-standing pain usually improves in stages. At your first visit we will explain what we found, what we expect, and when we will re-check progress.

Do I need an X-ray or MRI first?

Not usually before a first chiropractic visit. We will examine you first and refer for imaging if your history or examination shows it is needed, or if you are not progressing as expected.

Can I keep working and exercising?

In most cases, modified activity is better than complete rest. We will tell you what to keep doing, what to pause, and what to change — for example, swapping heavy deadlifts for walking while your back settles.
