Scoliosis care in Sandy Springs, GA

Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine, and the right plan depends entirely on who has it and whether it is changing. A growing teenager, an adult whose curve was found at a school screening decades ago, and an older adult with a new degenerative curve are three different situations. At Excel Chiropractic we assess the curve, screen for progression risk, manage the pain and stiffness curves often create, and refer for orthopaedic input when a curve needs it.

posture screening in a clinic

Signs and symptoms we assess

  • Uneven shoulders, hips, or waist, or a visible rib prominence on bending forward
  • Back ache or stiffness, often one-sided
  • Fatigue standing or sitting for long periods
  • Clothes hanging unevenly
  • In adults: pain from uneven load, sometimes with leg symptoms

Common causes and contributors

  • Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis — cause unknown, most common type
  • Congenital spine differences present from birth
  • Degenerative changes in adult spines
  • Muscle imbalance and leg-length difference affecting posture (functional curves)
  • Neuromuscular conditions (need specialist co-care)

No single cause explains every case. Two people can describe the same pain and need different plans, which is why the examination — not the symptom list — decides what we do.

What care looks like at Excel Chiropractic

  • Posture, movement, and forward-bend screening, with imaging referral where measurement is needed
  • Care for pain, stiffness, and muscle imbalance around the curve
  • Monitoring plan for growing teens, with clear re-check intervals
  • Exercise and load guidance for school, sport, and desk work
  • Orthopaedic referral for large, painful, or rapidly progressing curves, and for bracing decisions

Care at Excel is structural and specific: find the joints and tissues that are not doing their job, restore movement where it is restricted, calm the tissues protecting the area, and give you the smallest set of home changes that will actually hold the result. We re-examine at set points rather than continuing indefinitely without evidence of change. If we find something outside chiropractic scope, we will say so and help you get to the right provider.

What happens at your first visit

Your first visit is an examination visit, not a sales pitch. We start with your history: when this began, what makes it better or worse, what treatment you have already tried, and what it is stopping you from doing. Then we examine movement, joints, muscles, and nerve function as they relate to your complaint, and explain what we found in plain language before any care begins. You will leave knowing what we think is going on, what we recommend, how long we expect it to take, what it will cost, and when we will re-check whether it is working. If your case needs imaging, medical care, or a different specialist first, we will tell you that on day one. Book through the Schedule page with the $21 New-Patient Special: Get your Chiropractic Evaluation, Report of Findings, AND a Graston Soft-Tissue Treatment Session for Only $21! The special does not include a massage.

What helps between visits

Progress is rarely made in the treatment room alone. Between visits, the patients who do best keep moving within the limits we set, apply the home guidance consistently rather than intensely, and pay attention to patterns — what time of day symptoms peak, which activities reliably provoke them, and which reliably help. Write those patterns down and bring them in. They often tell us more about what is driving your problem than a single pain score, and they let us adjust the plan on evidence instead of guesswork. If something we recommended flares your symptoms for more than a day, tell us rather than pushing through it.

When to get checked promptly

Seek prompt specialist care for a curve progressing quickly during a growth spurt, back pain in a young child, or scoliosis with weakness, numbness, or bladder or bowel changes.

Frequently asked questions

Can chiropractic care straighten a scoliosis curve?

Be wary of anyone who promises that. Structural curves are managed, monitored, and kept moving and comfortable — claims of reliably straightening them with adjustments alone are not supported. We will tell you plainly what care can do for your curve.

My teen was flagged at a screening. What happens next?

We examine and, where needed, arrange imaging to measure the curve. Size, age, and growth remaining decide whether the plan is monitoring, active care, or a specialist referral for bracing.

Does scoliosis always cause pain?

No. Many curves never hurt. Pain is more common in adults, where uneven load wears joints and muscles — and that pain and stiffness is often very manageable.
